On January 22, the MDPI Canada team returned to the University of Toronto to host an Information Session for students interested in pursuing a career in academic publishing and scholarly communication.
The team delivered presentations highlighting MDPI as a publisher, key developments from 2024 and 2025, our publishing practices and commitment to research ethics, and the evolving role of AI in scholarly publishing. They covered transparency in publishing and how MDPI supports quality, integrity, and accessibility across its journals, as well as highlighting ongoing collaborations with U of T, including past career fairs, campus initiatives, and academic publishing workshops, which provide students and researchers with valuable insights into scholarly communication.
Students also came away with a clearer sense of the diverse career pathways within MDPI and which areas might be worth pursuing. Attendees learned about the structure of the editorial teams and the role of Assistant Editors in coordinating the peer review process and supporting journal development; gained insight into how the English Editing team collaborates with authors to enhance clarity and uphold high scholarly standards; and explored how the marketing team promotes MDPI journals, showcases authors’ research, and engages global academic audiences.
Thank you to all students and staff who joined us, and to the University of Toronto for hosting us. We were pleased to connect with so many of the bright minds shaping the future of research!
